The Mission:
Since its beginning, the Cub Scouts program has been a fun and educational experience concerned with values. Besides providing a positive place where boys can enjoy safe, wholesome activities, Cub Scouting focuses on building character, improving physical fitness, teaching practical skills, and developing a spirit of community service.

The Structure of a Cub Scout Pack:
A Cub Scout Pack is made up of Dens, or smaller groups of boys all of the same age and/or grade level. The Dens are identified by rank:
  • Tigers - First Grade (or age 7)
  • Wolves - Second Grade (or age 8)
  • Bears - Third Grade (or age 9)
  • Webelos I - Fourth Grade (or age 10)
  • Webelos II - Fifth Grade

American Values Preserved in Scouting

Although many boys start as Tigers, they
can join at any time. Dens meet 2-3 times per month as a group, to work on projects toward their rank, to prepare something for the Pack meeting, to work toward earning elective awards, or any other activity they like. They often meet in the home of the Den Leader, the adult volunteer who organizes and runs the den meetings, or they may rotate between the homes of the den members. They may go on field trips as well with prior parental notice, permission or participation.

Once per month during the school year (September to June), all the Dens meet together as a Pack. The Cubmaster leads the Pack Meeting, which has been planned and organized with the help of the Pack Committee. The Pack Committee consists of all the Den Leaders, plus other adults who help run things "behind the scenes" for Cub Scout Pack 70. Pack meetings often follow a theme, and are usually held at Bethany Congregational Church in Foxborough, although sometimes they are held at other locations for special events.

Pack 70 also organizes activities outside of den and pack meetings, usually about one every 1-2 months. Past activities have included overnights at various museums, visits to Old Sturbridge Village, Plymouth Plantation, the Battleship Massachusetts,
campfire events, as well as one-day activities such as hiking, bowling, swimming, and fishing. The Old Colony Council also sponsors events for all the Packs in the region, such as Chuck Wagon Derby, Pinewood Derby and more.

Boys "graduate" to the next rank level in June. They have a rank badge that they work to achieve that is specific to each rank. We generally try to help boys to finish all the requirements for their rank badge by February, when we hold our Blue and Gold Banquet. However, they have until June to finish any awards for their rank. Although each boy only works on the rank for his age group in a given year, any boy who has just joined Cub Scouting must first earn a Bobcat award before he can be awarded his rank for that year.

Meetings:
Den and Pack meetings are held during the school year. Typically, there is one Pack meeting per month.  In between pack meeting, are when we hold weekly Den meetings.  Attendance isn't mandatory.  We understand that kids and families have busy schedules. Although we encourage as much participation as possible, activities can be done outside of regular meetings so that boys (and their parents) are able to fit scouting into their lives more conveniently.

Den and Pack meetings for Foxboro Cub Scouts Pack 70 are typically suspended for the summer, although we may have a special Cub Scout Pack 70 event during the summer to get the boys and their families together for some fun.
